The brief
When asked by Ingenico to present easycash, its solution for international payment transactions, in a video, the Synthese Video team stayed perplexed for an instant. The subject does not sound very sexy! ... Later, after a brainstorming session, we proposed to illustrate the "backstage" transactions by entering into a world close to Tron's lightcycle races. Green light from the Ingenico's communication management! We had 2 minutes to explain everything: the multiple payment methods and the fast and secure transactions.
The easycash brief
- Show the different ways of payment: smart card, magnetic stripe, contactless or e-payment
- Mention the variety of outlets (the solution is accessible to small shops or online sales)
- Insist on transaction security:SSL and PCI DSS, ZKA, S€PA, NFC, EMV, 3D Secure Visa and Mastercard
- Show the DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion): easycash supports foreign currency transactions
- Illustrate the processing speed of the transaction
The scenario
Once the theme is found (Tron Legacy), the synopsis is written.
A city, its square and its shops illustrate the different types of payment cards. Then we get inside the system, we enter the digital world. Transactions are embedded in devices moving at the speed of light on hyper-secure easycash highways. Each must pass under signs and control of various international payment standards. The last DCC transaction takes us back in the real town to see the real shop being credited with the amount of the transaction converted into euros.
The power of computer graphics
Graphic designers begin by creating the vehicle. It will be a 3-wheel vehicle, shielded for a better illustration of security. Once modeled, the goal is to make the vehicle pick up the data and to illuminate its tracks (like in the movie Tron Legacy). The special effects made in Maya 2012 are the same as in the movie. The embedded data (light animations of figures) are also processed in 3D. What's left? ...
creating the animation of the machines in the virtual city.
Rendering, the accelerated version: the renderfarm solution
Special effects require intense computation time, and images are rendered in full HD. The solution was to use a renderfarm rendering in order to overcome the 3D computings.
Editing and sound design: the final touch
So as to make the video fluid and rhythmic, a nervous editing is needed, it is also crucial for the editing to be effective enough so as to ensure an easy reading of the various safety standards. Few words in voiceover edited with police walkie-talkie sound effects alongside a suitable music represented the final touch: easycash video has been designed and directed like a real fiction movie… in one month.
